Pioneer Bank President/CEO Jon E. Hitchcock recently celebrated his 35th anniversary with Pioneer Bank. In 1974, Hitchcock received a BBA from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and is a Certified Public Accountant. Hitchcock began working at Pioneer Bank as a Vice President/Treasurer in September of 1980. In July 1982, Hitchcock was promoted to Senior Vice President, and in December of 1982 he was elected to the Board of Directors. From January 1988-June 2002, he served as Executive Vice President, and in 2002, was promoted to his current position, Chairman/President/CEO.
Under Hitchcock’s leadership, Pioneer Bank has shown significant growth. The institution currently has sixteen bank branches and two mortgage branches throughout New Mexico, Texas and Colorado. Pioneer Bank has grown in assets from $130 million in 1980 to over $691 million in 2015.
The banking industry has seen many changes and improvements recently, and Hitchcock has been instrumental in keeping up with technology and implementing new and exciting products to help customers with their finances. Because of his vision, Pioneer now offers a large variety of technology based products as well as an increased online presence.
Long time board member Timothy Z. Jennings expressed his congratulations by stating, “Jon started at Pioneer Bank as a CPA, and through hard work and proven success, earned his way up as Chief Financial Officer to President and Chairman to the Board of Directors. Through his leadership, we have continued to provide our customers with the most modern financial services within the most appealing facilities.”
Hitchcock is also well known throughout New Mexico for his community involvement. He is a past-President of the New Mexico Bankers Association, board member at Lovelace Hospital, an Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Director of the Roswell Symphony Orchestra Foundation, Treasurer of the ENMU-R Foundation, a member of Roswell Rotary, Board Member of the New Mexico Oil Corporation, New Mexico Amigo’s, Civil Air Patrol and is a past-President of the Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corporation (RCCEDC). While with the RCCEDC, he was very involved in bringing American Airlines Air Service to Roswell and is helping with plans for a flight to Phoenix. He is also a retired Lt. Colonel (Field Artillery) of the U.S. Army Reserve.
In addition, Hitchcock is a lifetime member of Leadership New Mexico, earned the 2004 Outstanding Leader Award by the Leadership Roswell Alumni Association, was a board member on the Roswell Chamber of Commerce from 2001-2007, and the 2010 Citizen of the Year for the Roswell Board of Realtors.
He and his wife, Dietta, have been married for 19 years.
